Säker

A modular trail-and-car harness that is currently listed by Center for Pet Safety as a 5-Star certified safety harness in XS through L. CPS reports a November 2022 test under protocol CPS-001-014.01 with a 75 lb test dog; that independent certification is the main reason it ranks first, not a claim that it eliminates crash risk.

Sleepypod

Sleepypod's current next-generation three-point car harness, offered in Regular and Long body-shape versions. The official page states independent CPS testing earned a 5-Star rating across an 18-110 lb range, while CPS currently lists Clickit Range among its certified harnesses. A sizing quiz and exact shape selection are important because the design deliberately limits torso movement.

Ruffwear

A padded, strength-rated car harness with a universal seat-belt loop and manufacturer-published dynamic testing under FMVSS 213 conditions. Ruffwear explicitly states that Load Up is not CPS certified and that its tested forward-excursion result would not meet CPS's current certification limit; that unusually clear disclosure makes it a stronger research choice than vague 'safety-tested' restraints, but not equivalent to the two certified picks above.

Kurgo

An affordable five-point-adjustable harness with all-steel nesting buckles and an included carabiner tether. Kurgo publishes a June 2018 Calspan report showing small, medium, and large v3 units passed the manufacturer's adapted FMVSS 213 criteria for structural integrity and excursion, up to a stated 75 lb test range. This is manufacturer-commissioned testing, not current CPS certification.

EzyDog

A dedicated step-in vehicle harness built from seat-belt webbing, reinforced stitching, dual buckles, and a molded EVA chest plate. EzyDog states that Drive was crash-tested to conform to FMVSS 213 conditions, but no current CPS certification was verified. Treat it as a manufacturer-tested restraint and follow the exact seat-belt-through-handle routing rather than calling it independently certified.

Sleepypod

A 16-to-22-inch expandable/compressible carrier for pets up to 18 lb, with four-sided mesh, privacy panel, rigid floor, washable bedding, trolley sleeve, and a design that also serves as a CPS-certified car restraint. Its adaptable length helps with varied under-seat spaces, but its fixed 10.5-inch width and height still have to match the exact airline, aircraft, and seat.

Away

A polished 18.7 x 10.8 x 10.75-inch carrier for pets up to 18 lb, with three mesh sides, privacy screen, washable sherpa bedding, trolley sleeve, organized pockets, and car-seat latches. It is CPS certified for car use. Away says it fits under most major-airline seats and meets FAA requirements, but those statements do not override the airline's flight- and aircraft-specific acceptance decision.

Roverlund

A 3-in-1 carrier, travel bag, and mobile bed with tear-resistant mesh, luggage sleeve, leak-resistant floor, and a shoulder strap that converts to a leash. Small is listed at 16 x 10.5 x 10.5 inches up to 15 lb and Large at 18 x 11.5 x 11.5 inches up to 25 lb; the rear insert can reduce height by about 0.5 inch. The Small selection was unavailable when checked, and neither size is universal for every flight.

Sturdi

A lightweight carrier with flexible height rods, mesh ventilation, zipper clips, padded interior, washable fleece pad, and several size profiles. Sturdi explicitly excludes XL and XXL from its in-cabin airline-compliant claim. The current listing is a final-sale clearance item, so buyers need to choose a flight-compatible size and verify fit before purchase.

Mr. Peanut's

A frameless 18 x 11.5 x 11.5-inch carrier that the maker says can flex to 8.5 inches high, with ventilation on five sides, self-locking zippers, warm and cool pad options, and a strap that converts to a leash. The published recommendation is up to 25 lb, but the stated best fit is a pet under roughly 17 inches long while lying down; dimensions and comfortable posture matter more than the generous weight ceiling.

Non-stop dogwear

A premium two-layer bivvy system whose weather-resistant outer and insulated inner can be used together or separately. The maker specifies a windproof shell, 7,460 mm water column, recycled PrimaLoft insulation, reflective details, stake loops, adjustable openings, and S-L sizing. It is the most protective and configurable choice here, but ground insulation is improved by adding the separately sold Protector Bivvy Bed.
